ABOUT YOUR VISIT

Below you will find a list of the most common questions arising from a sleep study. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact us.

If you cannot keep your appointment, you must contact our scheduling office 48 hours prior to your study date. Failure to do so will result in a $100.00 cancellation fee.

Before Your Visit

When should I arrive?

You need to check in to the Sleep Center by 8:15 PM for your 8:30 PM appointment. During the check-in process, feel free to ask any questions or concerns about your study.

I have a daytime study.

If you have a daytime study, you will receive specific instructions from our scheduling department. You will also receive a call confirming your appointment the day before your study along with any special instructions. If at any time you have questions, contact us.

If you normally work nighttime hours and sleep during the day, please be sure to call us and let us know.

How do I prepare for my study?

  • Keep your usual bedtime schedule the night/day before the study.
  • Avoid sleeping in or napping on the day of your study.
  • Avoid any activities that may interfere with your sleep on the night/day of your study.
  • Make sure to avoid caffeinated beverages and food.
  • It is best to avoid alcohol for 1 week prior to your study.
  • Take all prescribed medications unless otherwise directed by your physician.
  • Shower and wash your hair prior to coming to the Sleep Center. Do not use any hair products (oils, mousse, tonics, hairspray, etc.) on your hair or body.

If you have any questions about a specific preparation, please contact us before your study.

Where do I go for my study?

You will go to Suite 206 for your study. View a map and get directions.

You can park in any available spot in the lot. There are spots in front of the building which have blue painted parking stops that you are free to use without a handicap sticker. Just note that there are some spots which require a handicap sticker; these are marked with the appropriate sign.

What it will cost me?

Our insurance verification department will verify your benefits prior to the date of your study. You will be informed of the cost of your particular study when we call and confirm your appointment.

Unfortunately we cannot always guarantee that the insurance company will process the claim as they estimate it will. In this case you may receive a statement in the mail for the balance. If you ever have any questions or issues about a bill, please contact us.

What should I bring?

Please make sure that you bring some form of photo identification (like a driver’s license), your insurance card, and your prescription for the study.

Make sure you bring comfortable clothing to sleep in. Also bring any items you will need to sleep, like a good book or comfortable pillow. There is a TV located in the room, but bedtime will be no later than 10:30 PM.

Don’t forget to bring prescriptions, including over the counter medicine, that you need to take. We do not have a nursing department or any medications on hand.

If you currently have a CPAP/BiPAP machine, make sure you bring your supplies with you, though you do not have to bring your machine.

Finally, do NOT bring any jewelry or valuables with you. We will not be held responsible for lost or stolen items.

Paperwork

We ask that if you can, download, print, and complete your paperwork before coming in for your study. If you cannot do this, please be sure to come 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment in order to have enough time to fill out the necessary paperwork.

What should I wear?

Bring loose comfortable clothing to sleep in (i.e. pajamas, a baggy sweat suit, or
shorts and a T-shirt). Long nightgowns are not suggested, because they may interfere
with testing.

When will the test be over?

You will be done with your test and ready to leave by no later than 6 AM the following morning.

Cancellation Policy

If you cannot keep your appointment, you must contact our scheduling office 48 hours prior to your study date. Failure to do so will result in a $100.00 cancellation fee.

During Your Visit

What will my test be like?

After you have been checked in, you will be directed as to what you will need to do and what will happen during the test. You will have time to prepare for bed, during which wires will be hooked up to you to measure your sleep patterns.

You will go to bed by 10:30 PM. You may get up at any time during the night if needed.

You will be ready to leave by 6 AM. Additional questions or concerns arising during your study can be addressed during the check out process.

After Your Visit

When will my doctor receive the report?

Your doctor will receive the report within 1 week.

How can I get a copy of the report?

After the report is ready, you may come in any time during normal business hours (6 AM to 10 PM) and request your report. You will need photo identification (like a driver’s license) in order to pick up the report. Feel free to call us before to ensure that the report is ready.
