HOME SLEEP STUDY
Saint Pete MRI offers the convenience and comfort of having a sleep study in your own home!
Before Your Sleep Study
What is a home sleep study?
A home sleep study utilizes a portable monitoring device. This type of study is only used to look for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
The benefits to a home sleep study is that it is performed in the comfort of your own home without the need for supervision. However, it does not capture as much data as studies performed in a sleep lab like brain waves, sleep time, and leg movements.
Does someone actually come to my house?
No, you will pick up and drop off the portable monitoring device from our facility.
How do I pickup my device?
After your study is confirmed, you will make an appointment to come into our office in order to pick up your device, fill out any paperwork needed, and receive instructions from one of our certified sleep technologists on how to use it. This will take approximately 20 minutes.
What is the equipment like? Is it heavy?
The device is small, light and comes with its own carrying case.
During Your Test
How do I set up the machine?
It is simple and user-friendly. Instructions are given on the machine itself. Basically you: 1. Place a belt around your midsection. 2. Attach a clip on your finger. 3. Apply the airflow sensor under your nose. 4. Turn the machine on.
What if I have trouble?
Just give us a call using the phone number provided on the information given to you and somebody will assist you.
How do I prepare for the test?
Change into your sleepwear and set up the machine per the instructions.
Please remember you will need to sleep with it all night. Most people do not find wearing the monitoring device to be an obstacle to sleep.
Make sure you take your medication like normal, avoid caffeine after 12 PM on the day of the study and do not take naps that day. Also please remove any nail polish on the finger with the oxygen sensor on it to ensure proper recording.
After YouR Sleep Study
What do I do after my sleep study?
On the morning after your test, please ensure that the pie chart in the upper right corner of the device is full. If it is not full, then enough data may not have been collected; please call the below number to discuss your next steps.
Otherwise, please drop off the device by 1 PM on your scheduled drop off date, and your study will be interpreted and the results will be sent to your doctor.
When will my doctor receive the report?
Your doctor will receive the report within 1 week.
How can I get a copy of the report?
After the report is ready, you may come in any time during normal business hours (6 AM to 10 PM) and request your report. You will need photo identification (like a driver’s license) in order to pick up the report. Feel free to call us before to ensure that the report is ready.
